This stunning creature does move, but not like something you just had a blast assembling from pre-cut all-natural wood parts for a few hours, would move. Brought to life by a self-propelled rubber-band motor, this model moves to imitate the flutter and the flapping of wings of a real butterfly and doesn’t need any external power source.

How Ugears Butterfly Works

Each part of the UGears Butterfly wooden 3D puzzle set fits together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle with a pleasant clicking noise. It takes from 1 to 3 hours to assemble the Butterfly, and it comes with an illustrated tutorial in 11 languages.

The Butterfly is sitting on an elegant platform that also features the second character of our story, the flower, of course. The elastic support band slightly bounces the Butterfly which creates the ultra-realistic movements of this stunning model. The legs of the Butterfly play the key role in its movement. While the two front pairs moves together with the fluttering wings, the back ones are the launch/stop levers of the rubber-band motor that sets the Butterfly in flight. The body of the butterfly has an open design like many other mechanical UGears sets, as it allows the viewers to watch the work of intricate and smart mechanisms in motion, as well as makes each model lighter.

The wings of the Butterfly are made from craft paper and come in two sets: the plain ones that you can color yourself and the pre-painted ones.
